M. Shadows

Matthew Charles Sanders (born July 31, 1981), better known by his stage name M. Shadows, is the lead vocalist, songwriter, and founding member for the American metal band Avenged Sevenfold.
Early life and musical influence

Shadows was born as Matthew Charles Sanders on July 31, 1981, in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Huntington Beach High School, where after a brief stint in the band Successful Failure, he went to an old friend James Sullivan and began to form the earliest incarnations of Avenged Sevenfold. In the DVD "All Excess," Shadows claims that everyone in the band had been assigned to come up with a list of names, but that only he had followed through, and the name Avenged Sevenfold was chosen over Lips of Deceit.
Avenged Sevenfold

As Avenged Sevenfold started to grow, Shadows' vocal style changed significantly, progressing from metalcore screams on the first two albums towards a more aggressive, melodic style ever since. Rumors spread that this was the result of a throat surgery he had needed during Warped Tour.

On April 20, 2011, Shadows won the Revolver Golden God award for Best Vocalist. The band picked up numerous other awards and delivered the headlining performance of the night.
